Kvíárjökull

Kvárrjökull is a glacial tongue from Öræfajökull, which is part of the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. It is located approximately 30 km west of the famous Jökulsárlón lagoon and also beneath the highest point in Iceland – Hvannadalshnúkur. In front of the glacier, there is a small glacial lagoon that has been forming for several decades. The area around the glacier is fascinating due to the distinctive moraine hills, indicating its historical extent during the early 20th century. On the eastern side of the Kvíá River, there is the Kambmýrarkambur moraine with a height of 129 meters, and on the western side, there is the Kvíármýrarkambur moraine with a height of 150 meters. The site is easily accessible by turning off road no. 1. At the parking lot, there is a picnic table, an information board, and a part of a machine from a naval ship.
