Merkurker

Merkurker is a beautiful gorge on the road along F249 to the Þórsmörk valley, just past the Nauthúsagil canyon and before the challenging river crossings. From a distance, it may not seem particularly interesting, but the closer you get, the more enchanting it becomes. The gorge is tall and the Sauðá river runs through it. At the beginning of Merkurker, there is a mountain with a trail leading over it, and from here you will have some of the most beautiful views both into the fissure and across the Markarfljót river area.
