The Hlauptungufoss waterfall is not particularly large and until recently, it was one of the completely forgotten Icelandic waterfalls, of which there are thousands in Iceland. However, a path leading to the more famous Brúarfoss waterfall now runs nearby. Brúarfoss was once called the ‘hidden waterfall,’ and so Hlauptungufoss is also gaining popularity. What’s nice about it is that you can get very close to the roaring water, so be careful!
Hlauptungufoss is located right next to the trail leading to Brúarfoss. It’s best to park your car at this parking lot (GPS: 64.240128, -20.523870) and from there, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the waterfall.
