Hólmárfossar is a waterfall on a tributary of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river. The waterfall is interesting because the river splits into three different streams here, creating three waterfalls right next to each other.
The trail to Hólmárfossar is definitely one of the most beautiful hikes in the area, where, besides the Hólmárfossar waterfall, you will see many other waterfalls and natural attractions. The trek is neither difficult nor easy and takes about 2.5 hours. This is enough to deter 95% of tourists, who usually only visit the nearby Dettifoss waterfall and go no further.
