Ásbyrgi

Ásbyrgi Canyon, one of Iceland’s most beautiful places, is said to be created by the hoof of Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse. Its vast, monumental presence is striking. A unique feature of Ásbyrgi is its extensive forests, which are unusual for Iceland.

You can explore Ásbyrgi either from the canyon floor or take a hike along its edge.

Since it’s located off the Ring Road, you won’t find thousands of tourists here like you do at other Icelandic attractions. However, if you’re already visiting places like the Dettifoss waterfall, Ásbyrgi isn’t too far away.
