Heljarfoss

Heljarfoss is an unknown waterfall about 15 meters high on the Hofsá River on the northern shore of the Mjóifjörður fjord. The Hofsá River then continues through Hofsgljúfur, where it flows into the waters of the Atlantic.

You can find the Heljarfoss waterfall near road 953 Mjóafjarðarvegur, about 3 kilometers past the last hamlet in the Brekka area. If you are not visiting this waterfall directly, you might pass by on your way to the Dalatangaviti eldri lighthouse.

From the road, you can walk along the right bank of the river around the Hofsgljúfur canyon all the way to the Heljarfoss waterfall. It depends on how long you want to stay, but the waterfall is really beautiful, and if it were in a more frequented place, it would certainly be more visited. Here, you’ll have it all to yourself.
