An absolutely stunning place, offering one of the most beautiful views that Iceland can offer. The focal point is surely Lake Álftavatn and the surrounding Brattháls and Torfatindar mountains, with the Mýrdalsjökull glacier on the left, all part of the vastness of Iceland’s interior.
You can find it on the Laugavegur trail near the ford over Grashagakvísl, and it’s one of those places you really have to earn. It is roughly halfway between the Álftavatn campsite, where you must climb a steep hill with a 300-meter elevation gain, and the Höskuldsskáli/Hrafntinnusker campsite.
This viewpoint is about 20 kilometers (with an elevation gain of about 500 meters) from Landmannalaugar, so the fittest and most adventurous among you can reach it as part of a one or two-day trip, spending the night precisely at Höskuldsskáli/Hrafntinnusker.
