Brennisteinsalda

Brennisteinsalda (translated as “Sulphur Waves”) is a rainbow-colored mountain (more precisely, a volcano) near Landmannalaugar. It is one of those mountains that clearly show why the whole area is called the Rainbow Mountains. It is a popular destination for those looking for a relatively easy but interesting trekking goal in the area. One interesting option is to combine this hike with a climb up the nearby Bláhnúkur mountain, creating an enjoyable day trip with many stunning views.

You can easily reach the top of Brennisteinsalda from Landmannalaugar by following the Laugavegur trail. In less than two hours on foot, you’ll be there!
