Skeggi is a hill in the Hengill area, which you will find about 20 kilometers east of Reykjavík. It is an area full of hiking trails where you can get lost for a whole day and you won’t be bored. Among locals, the area is quite popular thanks to its proximity to the capital, but don’t bother looking for it in the tourist guidebooks, you won’t find it there. The routes are easy and can be managed by anyone who can climb the stairs to the third floor. Many of the trails are not on online maps, so it is not all that difficult to get lost here.

The views from Skeggi are truly beautiful and impressive. On the south coast you will see the town of Þorlákshöfn, and inland the entire area of Lake Þingvallavatn, beyond it the Langjökull glacier, and a little to the right and a bit farther, the Hekla volcano. That one is a good 80 kilometers away from here.
