Búðakirkja, along with the Hofskirkja church, is undoubtedly one of the most photographed churches in Iceland. Its black color contrasts beautifully with the frequent mists or the Snæfellsjökull glacier in the background, making it stand out.
Búðakirkja was built in 1703, but it received its current form in 1987.
You can find Búðakirkja on the southern coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, where road number 54 veers from the sea into the mountains. From there, turn off at this location (GPS: 64.838909, -23.402820). After about 500 meters, turn left again and continue straight for 2 kilometers until you reach the church.
