Arnarstapi, sometimes simply called Stapi, is a village located at the southwestern end of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It is known for an incredible variety of local natural beauty. Within walking distance, there are beautiful viewpoints, popular natural rock bridges, particularly the rock formation Gatklettur favored by photographers, and for fauna enthusiasts, a large number of seabirds nest on the cliffs. Overseeing it all is Bárður Snæfellsás—well, just his representation in the form of a six-meter statue.
All of this is situated directly under the Snæfellsjökull Glacier, where Jules Verne set the story of his novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” Also popular is the 2.5-kilometer coastal walk to Hellnar.
Arnarstapi is truly an interesting place and certainly deserves attention.
