Kjarvalshvammur

Kjarvalshvammur is a small cabin on road no. 94 between Egilsstaðir and Borgarfjörður eystri. It served as a summer retreat for the Icelandic painter Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval (1885–1972), who drew inspiration here. The site also features a boat shelter and an information panel with details about his life and work. Although the cabins cannot be visited from the inside and can only be viewed through the windows, it is worth stopping by. Kjarval was a fascinating character—a self-taught artist who, despite his humble beginnings, went on to study art in Denmark and developed a unique painting style.
