The lake below you is called Heiðarvatn, and you can extend your trip all the way to it.
The best way to reach the Hatta viewpoint is from the church in Vík í Mýrdal. After an initial steep climb, the path becomes almost flat. The trail is 3.5 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 450 meters, and it will take you about an hour to get there.
