Álfaborg (City of Hidden People or also City of Elves) is quite a small hill in Bakkagerði, a village in the Borgarfjörður eystri area. According to legend, the queen of the elves, Borghildur, resides here, and the place is considered to be the seat of the elven nobility. In 1976, Álfaborg was declared a protected area for public use. The top, which is rather flat, offers beautiful panoramic views of the fjord and surrounding mountains.
The hike is easy and suitable for everyone. If you are staying at the local campsite, you can use the hike to Álfaborg as your morning exercise.
And shhh, don’t disturb the elves!
