Þórisvatn is currently the largest lake in Iceland. Originally, Þórisvatn was the second largest Icelandic lake, with the largest being Þingvallavatn, covering 84 km². However, due to construction works related to the power plant located on its southern edge, the lake increased by approximately 15 km².
