Sigöldufoss

Sigöldufoss, also known as Hrauneyjafoss, is in a way a victim of technological changes in Iceland. While it was once part of a mighty glacial river, it is now significantly tamed by a hydroelectric power plant located not far upstream. Previously a powerful waterfall carrying everything in its path, today the flow of the Tungná River, and consequently the Sigöldufoss waterfall, is rather gentle.

If you are in the area, don’t miss the nearby Valley of Tears – Sigöldugljufur.
You will certainly pass by the Sigöldufoss waterfall when traveling on the classic F208 route to Landmannalaugar.
