Skútafoss

Skútafoss is a waterfall on the Þorgeirsstaðaá river in the Þorgeirsstaðadalur valley. However, Skútafoss is quite unknown and most people pass it by. A notable feature is the cave beneath the waterfall, which makes for a great spot to stop and have a picnic.

Skútafoss is located on the southern coast of Iceland, slightly off the beaten path of Iceland’s tourist routes. If you are driving the Ring Road counterclockwise, it is about 6 kilometers past the road tunnel from the town of Höfn. At this point (GPS: 64.338656, -14.930433), head ‘into the mountains’. The road is difficult to drive on for smaller cars, so it is advisable to park and continue on foot.
