Pony’s Head Petroglyph

The intriguing rock carvings are certainly not a creation from historical times, but if you want to explore places that are interesting and overlooked by tourists, this is one of them. There are several figures here, including a horseman reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and birds in flight. You can find these carvings on a small promontory about 2 kilometers east of the town of Stöðvarfjörður. Parking isn’t great here, so you might use the small parking lot near the power station building nearby.
