Nautagil is a smaller canyon in the Askja region, located near the F910 road about 4 kilometers south of the Dreki base. The canyon is mainly famous because NASA astronauts trained here before their departure to the Moon in the Apollo program. It is true that the ground in the canyon is quite unusual, and many of the minerals are so light that they float, making movement on such a surface rather peculiar.
