Langjökull

Langjökull – the Long Glacier – is the second largest glacier in Iceland, covering an area of 950 square kilometers, right after the Vatnajökull glacier.

Interestingly, the water in Lake Þingvallavatn originates from this glacier and reaches the lake through underground channels.

A gravel road from highway F550 leads you to the glacier. The road continues onto the glacier itself, where there is quite a lot of traffic from vehicles specially adapted for glacier travel.
