Ísafjörður

Ísafjörður, with its 2,700 residents, is the largest town in the Westfjords. It serves as the administrative center of Ísafjarðarbær, and you can find a library, a church, and a hospital there. Ísafjörður also boasts an old town where you can see beautiful wooden buildings from the 18th century.

Located on the shore of Skutulsfjörður, a smaller part of Ísafjarðardjúp, Ísafjörður lies at the end of the Westfjords, a place where elves and arctic foxes bid each other good night.

Ísafjörður is accessible by road and, as is common in the remote areas of Iceland, also by air, with a domestic airport located just across the bay from Ísafjörður.

Ísafjörður serves as the main departure point for the Hornstrandir area.
