Hjörleifshöfði

Hjörleifshöfði is a 221-meter-tall solitary mountain on the southern coast of Iceland, not far from the town of Vík. Interestingly, it used to be an island in earlier times. Among other things, it offers beautiful views of sunsets.

The mountain is named after Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson, a settler from the ancient times of Iceland, who was killed by his slaves. According to legend, Hjörleifshöfði is the site of Hjörleifr’s burial.

At the southern base of Hjörleifshöfði lies the famous cave Gýgagjá (Yoda cave).

Hjörleifshöfði is located about 10 kilometers east of the town of Vík í Mýrdal.
