Eskifjörður is a fishing town in eastern Iceland with approximately 1100 inhabitants, which together with Neskaupstaður and Reyðarfjörður forms the municipality of Fjarðabyggð. It has a rich history of trade and fishing, dating back to 1789 when it became an official trading site. The Danish trading company Örum & Wulff played a significant role, establishing a branch here in 1798.
Natural attractions in the area include the Bleiksárfoss waterfall and the unmissable and beautiful Hólmatindur mountain (1024 m). Among cultural interests, there is a maritime and war museum. Nearby to the east is the Helgustaðanáma quarry, which played an important role in the field of science and research. In the vicinity, you will also find a golf course and the Gerpissvæði ski area.
