Djúpalónssandur

Djúpalónssandur – a beautiful black sand beach with small pebbles located directly beneath the volcano and glacier Snæfellsjökull, which gives the ocean an interesting and contrasting dimension.

On the beach, you can find metal wreckage from the British fishing vessel Epine GY7, which shipwrecked here during a stormy night from March 13th to 14th, 1948.

There are also boulders where both men and women can test their strength.

Djúpalónssandur is located at the very western tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, in the western part of Iceland. Nearby, there is a large parking lot with restrooms, and the beach is a five-minute walk from there.
