Rauðisandur

Rauðisandur is the most majestic beach in Iceland and one of the icons of the Westfjords. Besides its incredible vastness, it is unusual in Iceland for having yellow sand. On summer days, you can enjoy beautiful sunny weather here, but without (strong) neoprene, you will likely stay on the shore, merely enjoying the views of the cold waters of the North Atlantic. It is the perfect place for a romantic walk on the beach, just a short distance from the Arctic Circle and the stunning Látrabjarg cliffs.

You can find Rauðasandur beach in the southwest of the Westfjords. Access, like almost everywhere in the Westfjords, is not ideal. Extra caution is required when driving with a small car.
