Axlafoss (sometimes also referred to as Axlarfoss) on the Hólmsá river is a playful, though only 8 meters high, but definitely photogenic waterfall located somewhere in the forgotten part of Iceland’s interior beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. It is not easy to reach the edge of the waterfall, so you will have to settle for the view from the edge of the canyon, but even that is worth it.
You can find Axlafoss near the F910 road, about 30 kilometers northwest of route nr. 1.
