Grjótagjá cave
Grjótagjá Cave, located close to Road No. 860 on the eastern shore of Lake Mývatn, was once known locally for the thermal pond hidden within it. Since being featured in “Game of Thrones,” however, it has gained worldwide fame and has become a popular destination for tourists in the Lake Mývatn area, with many considering it one of the most romantic thermal pools in the region.
Due to constant geothermal changes, the pool has become too hot for bathing in recent years, but you can still visit to admire the beauty of the place. The cave has two entrances, and it’s up to you which one you choose. Both the cave and the pool are relatively easy to access, unlike the nearby Stóragjá
