Kristínartindar

Kristínartindar is a mountain in the Skaftafell area, standing at 1126 meters, and you can ascend it from the information center, where you can park or stay in the campsite. Since your hike essentially begins at sea level, it’s clear that you have a significant elevation gain ahead of you. And be aware, the most challenging section will come right at the end.

However, the reward will be a view into the Morsárdalur valley with Iceland’s highest waterfall and, on the other side, the glacier tongue Skaftafellsjökull, along with views of the mountain ridge and, of course, down to the ocean.

Almost up to the final ascent, two paths lead the way. One is along the eastern slope of Skaftafellsheiði, where you’ll have a view of the Skaftafellsjökull glacier tongue for most of the trip and find several truly beautiful viewpoints. The other option leads more inland, around the Svartifoss waterfall, and with this option, you’ll have the approaching Kristínartindar always ahead of you.
