Lookout point and view of Gullfoss waterfall from the east side of the Hvítá river. Gullfoss waterfall is one of the most visited places in Iceland where you will never be alone on the western side. This spot on the other side of the Hvítá river is quite the opposite, and the likelihood of being alone here is very small. And those views are worth it. There’s just pure nature and the roaring water of the river. Across the way, you can watch people like ants.
There’s an unpaved road leading here, but with a bit of care, you can reach the parking lot at the lookout with any car. From the western side of the Gullfoss waterfall, head south on road no. 30 over the bridge across the Hvítá river. Then take road 349 and turn right before the Tungufell farm. About 4 kilometers later, you’ll reach a small parking lot, and from there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Gullfoss waterfall.
