Skaftafell (now part of Vatnajökull National Park) offers visitors a concentrated form of Iceland’s natural beauty, making a day here one of the most pleasant and peaceful you can spend in Iceland. The expansive plains and stunning views will undoubtedly tempt you to take both shorter and longer hikes. Here, you can find Iceland’s currently highest waterfall, Morsárfoss, as well as other local waterfalls like Magnúsarfoss and especially Svartifoss, which will capture the heart of any visitor.
And since we’re in Iceland, it comes as no surprise that you can visit, if you will, the glacier tongue Skaftafellsjökull.
The local geothermal pool is still waiting to be discovered.
It’s almost impossible to visit here for just a short trip, as there are simply too many opportunities for excursions. For overnight stays, you can use the local campsite.
Skaftafell is located 320 kilometers east of Reykjavik and 50 kilometers west of the Glacier Lagoon on Iceland’s southeastern coast, along Route 1. It is therefore accessible by any car, motorcycle (or bicycle:).
