Sigöldugljúfur

Sigöldugljúfur Canyon is one of the somewhat forgotten places in Iceland that you shouldn’t miss on your way to Landmannalaugar. You won’t find crowds at this canyon, whose one wall is formed by the Lekafossar waterfalls, which is a pity because the contrast between the relatively barren landscape on one side and the lush vegetation on the other deserves attention. Sigöldugljúfur Canyon is also known as the Valley of Tears (created by the Lekafossar waterfalls), and photographers, in particular, will find it highly rewarding.

You can find Sigöldugljúfur Canyon near the F208 road that leads to/from Landmannalaugar. It’s best to leave your car at the nearby parking lot (GPS: 64.160853, -19.157560) and walk to the canyon from there. The walk takes about 15 minutes.
