Núpsstaðakirkja

The Núpsstaður turf church is, since 1930 the first protected building in Iceland. First notions about the church in this place comes from 1340. The time took this church away and in 1600 the other, new church has been built here.

This church ceased to be used in 1765, but continued to serve as a prayer house. In 1930, this church was taken into the administration of National museum. Then, in 1972, this church has been restored. The structure was kept, but new walls and the roof has been placed.
