Even if you probably won’t want to reach the very top of the mountain, the hike up to almost the summit of Löðmundur could easily become the highlight of your stay in Iceland. This moderately challenging trek offers breathtaking views stretching for dozens of kilometers across the Icelandic interior.
Löðmundur is accessible on foot from the Landmannahellir cave in about 90 minutes. Along the way, there is a fairly steep 50-meter section, so be careful not to fall.
