Hólmárfossar is a waterfall on a tributary of the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum. The waterfall is interesting because here the river divides into 3 different streams and you actually have 3 waterfalls right next to each other.
The road to Hólmárfossar is definitely one of the most beautiful treks in the area, where you will see many other waterfalls and other natural attractions besides the Hólmárfossar waterfall. The trek is not difficult, it is not easy and it will take you about 2.5 hours. That’s enough to deter 95% of the tourists who just drive to the nearby Dettifoss waterfall and go no further.
