Herðubreiðarlindir

Herðubreiðarlindir is a beautiful green oasis in the Icelandic interior, right beneath Iceland’s “queen of mountains,” Herðubreið. There are numerous springs here that form a network of rivers and ponds, hosting a variety of plant species and many bird species. An interesting fact is that in the past, outlaws sought refuge in Herðubreiðarlindir, the most famous being Fjalla-Eyvindur. Herðubreiðarlindir is located along road F88. To the north is the deep ford of the Lindaá river, which is not recommended for crossing with small 4WD vehicles. If you have such a vehicle (like a Duster, Forester), you can use the slightly longer route with smaller fords F905 and F910 and approach the area via F88 from the south. The area is accessible only in the summer.
