Herðubreið (Broad Shoulders) is the national mountain of Iceland and is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain in Iceland. Technically, it is a volcanic crater of the tuya type, formed during a subglacial eruption.
On the way to Herðubreið, you need to cross several rivers (it is easier to come from the south), so having a suitable vehicle is essential. However, once you are in the Icelandic interior, you won’t miss Herðubreið, as it is quite literally visible from everywhere.
