Hengifoss

Hengifoss is one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland and definitely the most interesting one in the eastern part of Iceland. Its background is composed of volcanic layers, so you can count the eruptions.

There is an another quite similar and really impressive waterfall near by, just check Strútsfoss!

How to Find Hengifoss:

You can find Hengifoss 35 kilometers (22 miles) South West of Egilsstaðir. After you park your car at the parking lot (with toilets), you have to go on foot for about an hour to see the waterfall in its full glory. It is not somehow difficult hike, but you have to go all the time against the stream and therefore uphill. On your way, you will encounter an another Icelandic waterfall – Litlanesfoss.
