Gjáin in the Þjórsárdalur valley is a stunning and unexpected sight—somewhat like an oasis in the desert, where the magnificent Icelandic nature reveals itself in all its glory. Streams, rapids, waterfalls, singing birds, lichens, mosses, grass, bushes, and trees—all are present here. You can admire this beauty from a cave or simply stroll around and enjoy the world.
In the Gjáin valley, there are two waterfalls: Gjárfoss and another unnamed one, which gained worldwide fame from the TV series Game of Thrones.
Gjáin is accessible via Road 327, which is a bit difficult to pass in many places (4WD recommended).
