The whaling ship Garðar BA 64, of Norwegian origin, was built back in 1912 (the year of the Titanic disaster) and is the oldest steel ship in Iceland. Since 1981, it has been ‘residing’ here on the shore of the Westfjords.
You can find Garðar BA 64 on the beach along road 612, just about a kilometer from the turnoff from road 62. You certainly won’t miss the spot if you’re heading to visit the puffins at the Látrabjarg cliffs.
If you’re interested in abandoned whaling ships, there’s another option in Iceland: the abandoned whaling ships in Hvalfjörður.
