The wreckage of the aircraft, which made an emergency landing on the Langanes Peninsula on June 25, 1969, at the site of a former runway, remained there until 2022. However, the growing popularity of the site among tourists disturbed local farmers. Therefore, an agreement was made with the residents of Eyvindarholt to relocate this historical artifact. Thus, after more than 50 years, the wreck set out on a journey of over 700 kilometers to get here. And frankly, this wreck is even older than the much more famous DC-3 aircraft wreck on the Sólheimasandur beach, which is nearby.
You can find the Dakota wreck 6 kilometers north of the popular Seljalandsfoss waterfall along road 249. From there, turn right, and the signs will guide you directly to the location.
