Eldgjá

If you are here, you are in the 50 kilometers long and up to 600 meters wide volcanic crater. In other words, Eldjá is the biggest crater in the world! An interesting place which is still alive (be aware of falling rocks!) and where you can come to admire the beautiful Ófærufoss waterfall. This is a time well spent here.

How to find Eldgjá:

Eldgjá is 65 kilometers north west from Kirkjubæjarklaustur via the road F208. There is a parking lot with toilets where you can park your car (and use amenities) and follow the crater at least to Ófærufoss.

GPS coordinates of the Eldgjá crater: 63.955085, -18.626981 Take me there!
