Arnarstapi, sometimes simply referred to as Stapi, is a small village located at the southwestern tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It is known for its incredible diversity of natural beauty. Within walking distance, there are beautiful viewpoints, popular natural rock bridges, including the photographer-favorite rock formation Gatklettur, and for wildlife enthusiasts, a large number of seabirds nest on the cliffs. Overseeing all of this is Bárður Snæfellsás – or rather, his depiction in the form of a six-meter statue.
All of this is also directly beneath the Snæfellsjökull glacier, the setting for Jules Verne’s novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.
The 2.5-kilometer walk along the coast to Hellnar is also quite popular. Arnarstapi is truly an interesting place and definitely deserves attention.
