Stígafoss (sometimes also known as Stígarfoss), located in the Fossagil canyon beneath a glacier, is one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland, standing at 140 meters.
Despite being the third highest waterfall in Iceland, it often goes unnoticed by most people. However, it makes a beautiful backdrop even from the Ring Road. You might consider stopping to take a look where others merely rush by.
You can find Stígafoss about halfway between Skaftafell and the Glacier Lagoon. There are no roads leading directly to the waterfall. Moreover, the hiking path to it, if not impossible, is at least extremely challenging.
