Skútustaðagígar

In the already fascinating area of Lake Mývatn, the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters are another site worth visiting. The Skútustaðagígar were formed as a result of gas explosions beneath lava flowing over wetlands, essentially creating lava cones. Some of the craters are accessible by land and can be walked upon, while others have become islands in Lake Mývatn, heavily populated by birds.

You can find the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters in the southern part of Lake Mývatn.
