Markarfljótsgljúfur is a canyon of the Markarfljót river and can be found in the area along the F261 mountain road. The canyon is characterized by steep walls with various and very unusual colors. It’s one of those places that offers you thousands of views, and each will be different.
The most beautiful views of the Markarfljótsgljúfur canyon are about a kilometer as the crow flies from this point. However, if you want to enjoy them, you need to drive to the Emstrur campsite area and from there set out about 5 kilometers along the Laugavegur trekking route.
