A new icelandic volcano is born!
On 10 July 2023 at 16:40, a volcanic acclivity occurred in the Litrli-Hrútur area. The fissure is almost a kilometer long and besides lava, a large amount of gases are leaking.
The site is now open to the public, is accessible from the 423 – Suðurstrandarvegur road (GPS: 63.852744, -22.274122) and it is important to know that the Meradala trail to the volcano and back is about 20 kilometres long.
For parking, use the parking lots that were built here for the 2021 and 2022 eruptions.
Check the current situation before you set off, it can change very quickly. In any case, take enough food and especially drinks with you!
