Bustarfell

Bustarfell is one of the oldest and best-preserved turf houses in Iceland. The houses are characterized by their red gables with white-painted windows, which are pleasing to both the eye and the camera.

The farm was purchased in 1532 by Árni Brandsson and his wife Úlfheiður and remains under the ownership of their descendants to this day. It served its original purpose until 1966 and now operates as a museum, showcasing both original elements and gradual modernizations such as electricity, running water, and heating.

During the summer season from June to August, you can visit the interior spaces for a fee, where you can see living rooms, kitchens, a stable, a blacksmith workshop, and a well. You can walk through the outside areas free of charge even outside of opening hours.

Bustarfell is located in the Hofsárdalur valley, about 20 kilometers southwest of Vopnafjörður.
