Þakgil (Roof canyon) is one of the Iceland´s hidden gems in the South. Just bit off the Ring road you can enter the land of a fairy tale where the encounter with elves seems plausible.
Just on your way here you´ll be thinking the old good: the path is the goal.
How to find Þakgil:
Þakgil is located 22 kilometers nort east of Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland. Take the road 214 (Kerlingardalsvegur) which takes you here starts 4 kilometers east of Vík í Mýrdal and is bit bumpy and rocky, but quite easily doable with a 2WD.
