Kollsvíkurver was an important fishing station in the Westfjords, active from the Middle Ages until the early 20th century. In the summer, fishermen from nearby and farther places gathered on the sandy beach, caught fish, dried them on stone walls, and some lived here year-round with their families. Stone cairns were used for navigation when landing, and on the Syðriklettar cliffs, there was a cave that served as a base for the fishermen, but it is no longer visible. The place was also marked by tragedy, when two men perished here while attempting to land. Today, you can only imagine what it was like here back then. And for those imaginings, you will find absolute peace, as very few people visit this place.
