About Me

I am RubΣn, a master of Iceland, creator of the website IcelandtheBeautiful, pack leader and occasional creator and consultant of itineraries around the land of fire and ice.

My path to this was not a straight one, I have studied at the Prague Conservatory, the Hochschule fur Musik in Weimar, Germany, the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv, Israel and then a long and fruitful career as a performing artist in the field of double bass. In addition to a career as an orchestral player that is probably a bit 'boring' for most people (e.g. the Czech or Israeli Philharmonic), I have also dedicated myself to recording film and television music and also recording music for computer games. Probably the most popular title where I play you from the speaker is the game Call of Duty 4.
I had to leave my musical career behind due to a wrist injury, but instead of giving up on the world, I managed to discover and ignite a new passion in myself, exploring and mapping the world. What I explore and discover, I also try to convey to other people, and that is precisely through this website.

I have a deep sense of ethics and justice, and so you probably already know that it was me, along with two American acquaintances, who in March 1996, under dramatic circumstances during a live shooting, pacified and kept under control Ladislav Winkelbauer, a double murderer on the run and the most wanted criminal in the Czech Republic at the time, until the police arrived.

It will certainly not surprise you, given my musical career, that I have an absolute pitch. But I am not writing this to brag, it is simply a fact.

And of course, modesty is just one of my many strengths.
